Juneteenth Commemoration

The annual Juneteenth Commemoration began at Dartmouth in 2023 to commemorate the historic day in 1865 when enslaved individuals in Galveston, Texas learned of their freedom – two years after the Emancipation Proclamation was issued. The events are an opportunity for faculty, staff and students to join in community to learn about Juneteenth’s historical significance.
