About the CRG

This program is designed to unite people from across the College, promote open and extended discussion, provide paths to conflict resolution, and serve as another bridge within the Dartmouth community.

All Dartmouth staff and faculty whether 100% remote or regularly on campus can participate. Participants choose which book they would like to read and then will be instructed on how to receive a free copy. For those that need an accommodation, we will work directly with you so that you can participate in a way that works best for you. Throughout the year we also hold optional community book discussions and provide discussion questions and, when possible, book summaries in advance.

2026 Book Lineup

Book #1: "King, A Life" by Jonathan Eig - (Available January-May). As part of our campus-wide MLK Celebration festivities, we released this first book on Dr. King's birthday, January 19, 2026. In this Pulitzer Prize winning book, the author gives us an MLK for our times: a deep thinker, a brilliant strategist, and a committed radical who led one of history’s greatest movements, and whose demands for racial and economic justice remain as urgent today as they were in his lifetime.

***Author Jonathan Eig will be joining us on campus Thursday, April 9. More information coming soon!***

Book #2: "How to Stand Up to a Dictator: The Fight for Our Future" by Maria Ressa - (Available May-August). From the recipient of the 2021 Nobel Peace Prize comes an impassioned and inspiring memoir that chronicles her career fighting fascism, filled with insights and advice for standing against authoritarian bullies and confronting disinformation and lies.

Book #3: "They Called Us Enemy" by George Takei - (Available September-December). Experience the forces that shaped an American icon -- and America itself -- in this gripping tale of courage, country, loyalty, and love set in 1942, when every person of Japanese descent was sent to "relocation centers" during World War II.
